He is of Italian and Polish-Jewish descent. He studied economics at Sorbonne University and worked in sales before moving to the United States of America to pursue a career in radio production. He ultimately returned to Paris, France, and began hosting shows from there.

His parents were both French actors, as were his maternal grandmother: Simone Signoret, and his maternal step-grandfather: Yves Montand. He has been married four times; to Valérie Sapienza , Flavie Flament, Vanessa Broussouloux, and Aurore Aleman. He has four children.

In 2012, he was injured in a motorcycle accident that left him unable to host Secret Story. The role of the host was turned over to Nikos Aliagas.
