Trinidadian and Tobagonian lawyer, politician, and economist, who was best known for serving as the fifth Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago from the years 1995 to 2001. He was the first person of Indian descent to hold the office of Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago. He was also known for serving as leader of the ULF and UNC.

Trivia
In 1976, he was elected to Parliament as the Member for Couva North, where he served as Leader of the Opposition five times between 1976 and 2010. In 2005, he was awarded the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs.

He was the son of Kissoondaye and Harry Sookchand Panday. He was married to Oma Panday. They had four daughters: Niala, Mickela, Nicola, and Vastala.
