Multi award-winning South African kwaito singer, songwriter, and music producer who first rose to fame with his 1994 debut album, titled "Windy Windy." His numerous hit songs, including "Amagents Ayaphanda" and "Daai Ding," helped him earn recognition as one of the South African music industry's "Kings of Kwaito."
Before Fame
Prior to entering the music industry, he pursued a modeling career and earned the title of "Mr. Soweto" in 1992. He joined various musical groups throughout the late 1980s and early '90s, including Out of Control, Q-Face, and Twin Prestige. His first hit song was titled "Kaffir," and was released as part of his 1995 eponymous EP.
Trivia
He earned Song of the Year from the 1998 South African Music Awards for his song "Oyi Oyi." His many accolades also include a Lifetime Achievement Award, with which he was honored at the 2016 South African Metro FM Music Awards.
Family Life
He is the son of Olympic equestrian and humanitarian Enos Mafokate, who rose to fame as the first black South African show jumper. He had a brother named Oupa Makendlas Mafokate, who tragically passed in the year 1998. His daughter, Owami Mafokate, is a popular and award-winning DJ.
