Professional tennis player known for her aggressive baseline play who has been compared to the legendary Serena Williams for her bold and tenacious approach to the game. In 2022, she became the 1st Kenyan to ever win a Grand Slam title at the girls' juniors Wimbledon event and the 1st Kenyan to win a girls' junior singles Grand Slam match at the Australian Open. She won an ITF Circuit singles title in 2023 and doubles titles in both 2022 and 2023. She also won the 2021 African Junior Championships.
Before Fame
Growing up, she trained at the Nairobi Club and public service tennis courts of Nairobi with help from her grandmother. She made her junior career debut at the 2017 ITF Junior finals and earned her first win the following year, in both singles and doubles events. She later won a Junior Grand Slam title in doubles in 2022.
Trivia
In August of 2022, she became the 1st athlete to have won 3 Sports Personality of the Month Awards from the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya. She also earned 2nd place in the running for Sportswoman of the Year from the 2022 SOYA Awards.
Family Life
She and her sister were raised by their grandmother Mary after her mother tragically passed away during childbirth. Her sister, Roselinda Asumwa, is also a professional tennis player and has played in local events and on the ITF circuit.
