About
Operatic soprano who was a luminous figure in 19th-century Mexican opera culture. She was performing in the most prominent opera houses of Europe by the time she reached her twentieth birthday. Within the span of one year, she performed in Rome, Florence, Bologna, Genoa, Naples, Lisbon, Madrid, Barcelona, St. Petersburg, Alexandria and Cairo. She was dubbed The Mexican Nightingale by European opera reviewers. Her most famous work is Álbum Musical de Ángela Peralta.
Before Fame
She made her operatic debut at the age of 15, at the Teatro Nacional in Mexico City. She went on to study opera in Italy, under the tutelage of Leopardi.
Trivia
She was also an accomplished pianist, harpist and composer.
Family Life
She married Eugenio Castera, who predeceased her in 1876.
Associated With
Jenny Lind was one of her contemporaries, who was dubbed The Swedish Nightingale.
