About

Beginning in the early 1980s, this regional speech expert built a career as one of the British and American film industries' leading dialect coaches. He worked with such renowned actors as Cate Blanchett, Robert Downey, Jr., and Pierce Brosnan.

Before Fame

Before beginning his career as a dialect coach, he trained as an actor at both the Arts Educational School and the Central School of Speech and Drama. He went on to host several BBC radio programs and to perform in Royal Shakespeare Company stage productions.

Trivia

For the popular Lord of the Rings films, he invented "Elvish" and the accents of "Middle-earth."

Family Life

With his wife, fellow dialect coach Paula Jack, he raised children named Rupert and Katherine and stepchildren named Nicola and Anna.
