About
European Space Agency astronaut known for being the first person of Danish descent to enter space as part of the ESA's IRISS program. He has worked as a test engineer for The European Space Research and Technology Center in the Netherlands and has been a member of the European Astronaut Corps. He has also worked with international space agencies such as NASA and SpaceX's Crew Dragon, the latter of which he became the first non-American to pilot in August of 2023.
Before Fame
He earned his Master of Engineering Degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 1999 from the Imperial College London before going on to earn his PhD in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 2007. After graduating, he worked as a contractor for the European Aeronautics Defense and Space Company's subsidiary, Astrium, which led him to temporarily live in locations all around the world, including Thailand, Portugal, Congo, and Singapore.
Trivia
His career has not been limited exclusively to space exploration. In 2014, he served as an aquanaut on the Aquarius Underwater Laboratory during the NEEMO 19's week-long undersea exploration voyage. In 2015, he became the recipient of the prestigious Danish Royal Medal of Recompense.
Family Life
He married Cecilie Beyer. They have three kids.
