His nickname in rugby is " André The Giant." He loves dogs and is an owner of bulldogs. He enjoys boating and jet skiing. In September of 2023, Esterhuizen was named as part of South Africa's squad for the 2023 Rugby World Cup. South Africa went on to win the tournament beating New Zealand 12-11 in the final. He is quite tall, standing at 6'4".
