Author who gained fame through her writings about etiquette, including her 1952 book Amy Vanderbilt's Complete Book of Etiquette. Her cook book Amy Vanderbilt's Complete Cook Book gained mass popularity as well. From 1954 to 1960, she hosted a television show called It's in Good Taste.
Before Fame
She began her career as a writer at the age of 16 by writing for the Staten Island Advance. After studying in Switzerland and the Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn, she graduated from New York University. Before writing her first book, she worked in PR and advertising.
Trivia
Her radio show The Right Thing to Do ran from 1960 to 1962. She briefly worked for the U.S. Department of State. She passed away on December 27, 1974, due to falling or jumping from the second story of her townhouse. It is unknown if her fall was the result of suicide or a side-effect of her hypertension medications which caused her to have spells of dizziness.
Family Life
She was a descendent of Cornelius Vanderbilt. She married three times before her marriage to Curtis Kellar. She had one child named Gill from her second marriage and two children named Paul and Stephen from her third marriage.
