After graduating from Arizona State University, she was admitted to Stanford Law School. She never graduated from Stanford, but her experience as a law student inspired her famous novel, Legally Blonde.

In 2013, Brown's third novel, School of Fortune, was in development to become a film starring Ashley Tisdale and Julie Andrews.

She settled in Los Angeles, California with her husband and two daughters.
