Alice Wong

About

Disability activist who has risen to fame as a creator and project coordinator for the Disability Visibility Project with spinal muscular atrophy. She has also served on the Asians and Pacific Islanders with Disabilities of California and as a presidential appointee to the National Council on Disability. 

Before Fame

She graduated with her degree in English and sociology from Indiana University at Indianapolis in 1997. She later earned her master's degree in medical sociology. 

Trivia

She had her debut book Resistance and Hope: Essays by Disabled People published in October 2018. She has been featured in Al Jazeera, the United Shades of America TV series, and Vice. 

Family Life

She was originally born and raised in the US. 

Associated With

She visited with then-president Barack Obama in 2015 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the passing of the Americans With Disabilities Act at the White House via robot teleconference. She was the first person ever to use a robot to visit the White House.
