She was a painter and designer, two hobbies that she continued to explore throughout her lifetime.

She was known for her saying,"Tomatoes and oregano make it Italian; wine and tarragon make it French. Sour cream makes it Russian; lemon and cinnamon make it Greek. Soy sauce makes it Chinese; garlic makes it good."

Family Life

She married her husband, architect and woodworker Ray, in April 1961 and left him in April 1968.

She was the inspiration for Arlo Guthrie 's musical monologue Alice's Restaurant Massacre from 1967.
