First prince of Moldova and prince of Wallachia who reigned from 1862 to 1866. He was active during the Revolution of 1848 in Moldavia, and his political reforms helped modernize Romanian society and state structure. He championed unifying Moldova and Wallachia, naming them the Romanian United Principalities.
Before Fame
He studied in multiple cities including Paris, Pavia, and Bologna. He was a colonel for Moldova during the aggression against Russo-Turkish rule.
Trivia
Following opposition and conspiracies towards the end of his reign, he was forced to abdicate and leave the country. He is often considered a founder of the modern Romanian state, as well as a national hero of the country.
Family Life
He married Elena Rosetti in 1844 and had two children named Sașa and Dimitrie Cuza.
