Dancer and singer known for her songs La Morena, The Witch, and Need Help. Her musical style is rooted in her Afro-Mexican background, and is based on the sounds of Oaxaca, Guerrero and Veracruz. Renowned composer Armando Manzanero is her musical partner.
Before Fame
She started studying contemporary song and dance at the Oaxaca School of Fine Arts when she was 15. In 2000, she studied at the 12th Paris Conservatory of Music, and went on to major in opera at the Universidad Veracruzana School of Music.
Trivia
In 2012 she performed with the Colombian group Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival.
Family Life
She was born in Puerto Escondido, a community on the Costa Chica of Oaxaca, in 1978.
