Prior to being drafted, he attended Arizona State University where he played college baseball for three seasons. Following his junior year, he was named a member of the first team All-PAC 12 in 2019.

He initially began his professional career playing for the Idaho Falls Chukars. He was later sent to the Lexington Legends.

He pitched a career-high 124.1 innings and recorded 156 strikeouts during the 2022 minor league season. He was later named the Royals' 19th-best MLB prospect in their farm system following the 2022 regular season.
