A Cuban bassist, drummer, pianist and singer-songwriter who has performed and recorded with jazz legends in various musical groups abroad and in Cuba. He is a Grammy winner and nominee in multiple categories and is known as an ambassador of Latin Jazz and Cuban music worldwide.
Before Fame
At age 9 he moved to Cienfuegos to play in a children's group called Cielito Lindo. He was known as the "Orchestra Man" while studying at the National School of Arts in Havana. His professional career began in large after Chucho Valdés recognized his talent and took him to work in Irakere. He worked there from 1994, as a singer and keyboard player, until he emigrated to Spain in 2001.
Trivia
In the year 2015, he was nominated to the Latin Grammy for his record "El Alma del Son." He also received the Latin Grammy as interpreter of the record, "Entre dos aguas," from Paco de Lucía. Most recently, he released the album, "Hablando con Juana (Talking to Juana)" with Bis Music label. The album was recorded in Madrid.
