Alaa Murabit

About

Libyan-Canadian doctor and women's rights activist who founded The Voice of Libyan Women at only 21 years old. She is a writer, speaker, and recipient of more than 100 honors and awards including Forbes 30 Under 30 and a Nobel Peace Prize nomination.

Before Fame

She earned her Medical Doctorate from Al Zawiya University and master's degree in International Strategy and Diplomacy with Distinction from the London School of Economics.

Trivia

She was a co-writer of the book Feminists Don't Wear Pink (and other lies). She posts about her work on her alaamurabit Instagram page. In March 2022, she posted a photo alongside Malala Yousafzai.

Family Life

At age 15 she moved from Canada to Libya. She grew up with her ten siblings. Her parents treated her brothers and sisters equally, which helped inspire the work she does today. She married her husband in 2018, and is the mother of two children.

In 2019 she was named Top 20 of the World's 100 Most Influential People in Gender Policy with people like Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Melinda Gates, and Michelle Obama.
