Egyptian politician who served as Prime Minister of Egypt from January 29, 2011 to March 3, 2011. He was the last Prime Minister to serve as part of Hosni Mubarak's administration. He resigned due to pressure from protestors and the opposition. In 2012, he announced that he would launch a new political party, called the Egyptian Patriotic Movement.

He attended the Egyptian Air Academy. After graduating in 1962, he became a member of the Egyptian Air Force.
Trivia
He was appointed as Air Force Chief of Staff in September 1991. He served in the position until April 1996, at which time he became Commander of the Egyptian Air Force. He resigned from the military in 2002.He narrowly lost the 2012 Egyptian presidential elections to Mohamed Morsi, the candidate of the Freedom and Justice Party. In November 2017, he announced his intention to run in the Egyptian presidential election. In January 2018, he withdrew his candidacy.
Family Life
In 2012, his wife Azza Tawfiq died at the Egypt Air Hospital in Cairo. She had been suffering from a long-term illness.
