About
Celebrated guitar pedagogue referred to by Classical Guitar magazine as "the father of American classical guitar education." From 1996 to 2008, he taught at Duquesne University's Mary Pappert School of Music. His best-known works are the two volumes of Classical Guitar Technique and the three volumes of The Shearer Method.

He studied classical guitar under Sophocles Papas.
Trivia
He helped develop the guitar program at Peabody Conservatory. He suffered from tendonitis, which partly contributed to his decision to abandon his performing career.
