During his junior season at Vanderbilt University, he finished as a top five scorer in the nation. He recorded the highest average in Vanderbilt program history since the 1960's.

He won three South Carolina state championships while at the Porter-Gaud Prep School in Charleston, South Carolina. His senior year he was named the South Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year.
