The film marked the first of four consecutive Academy Award nominations for Best Actor for Marlon Brando, however, he was the lone actor of the film to not win an acting award. Vivien Leigh, Karl Malden and Kim Hunter won for Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress, respectively.
