A 12-year-old boy (Jaden Smith) moves to Beijing, China with his mother (Taraji P. Henson) and receives help from a maintenance man (Jackie Chan) to learn the art of kung fu to protect himself from a school bully.
Trivia
In order to prepare for his role, Jaden Smith trained for three months prior to filming in China. Unlike the original 1984 Karate Kid, this remake takes place in China.
