Full name Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, the school became the only one of nine specialized schools in NYC to receive special funding from the NY State legislature.
The 1980 film Fame was based on the student life at the School of Performing Arts, a school originally created in an effort to harness students' talents in dance before merging and becoming LaGuardia High School in 1961.
