A sovereign country in northwest Africa bordered by Algeria, Mali and Senegal. The Atlantic Ocean is to the west and the Western Sahara to the north. Culturally and politically it is part of the Arab world.
Its Bay of Nouadhibou is one of the biggest ships cemeteries in the world. One of its most famous sites is the Banc d’Arguin National Park. The Blue Eye of the Sahara or Richat Structure is a geological formation once used as a landmark by astronauts.
