A country in northern Africa bordering the Mediterranean Sea to the north. It also shares borders with Egypt, Sudan, Chad, Niger, Algeria and Tunisia. It is the fourth-largest country in Africa and the Arab world.
It was once part of an Ancient Greek empire. Over 90% of the country is desert or semi-desert. The Libyan Sahara Desert is also home to Waw a Namus, the remnants of an ancient volcano.
