A coastal country in West Africa that borders Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, Mali, Cote d'Ivoire, Sierra Leone and Liberia. It has a history of military coups. It used to be named French Guinea because it was a French colony.
It contains significant mineral deposits including bauxite and iron ore. Its highlands are covered with forests and savanna. The northern part of the country is mostly desert land.
