A landlocked country in east Africa. It is bordered by Rwanda, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It was first colonized by Germany at the beginning of the 20th century and the Belgians after the First World War.
The country is impacted by overpopulation, unemployment and extreme poverty. It is home to the Twa, Hutu and Tutsi peoples. Media is severely restricted and is dominated by state-run outlets.
