A tropical country in West Africa bordered by Togo, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Niger. It used to be called the Dahomey. Its shore includes what was formerly known as the Slave Coast.
It is known as the birthplace of voodoo. The economy is dependent on agriculture and is an exporter of palm oil and cotton. It was the first African country to transition from a dictatorship to a democracy.
