Following the American League Championship Series, which determines the team that represents the AL in the World Series, one player is given the ALCS MVP for his standout contributions during the series. Pitcher Dave Stewart became the first player to win the ALCS MVP award twice, receiving the award in 1990 and 1993.
The New York Yankees won the ALCS four straight years from 1998 to 2001, but a different player received the ALCS MVP award on each of those four occasions. In 2019, Houston Astros second baseman José Altuve received the award after hitting a series-winning walk-off home run.
